How can I find out if a product complies with the new energy labelling rules?
The new label has been used across Europe since March 1, 2021. But for lamps, it started later — on September 1, 2021. Until March 1, 2023, both the old and new labels were allowed to be used at the same time.
How do you convert the old energy labels to the new ones?
The efficiency class of each product is now calculated using a new test method. That’s why the old and new energy classes are hard to compare.
For example, the energy use of the external power supply is now included. This makes the total efficiency look lower.
What is the difference between the old and new 2023 energy labelling?
The old labels used a scale from A++ (most efficient) to E (least efficient). This was based only on how much energy the product used in kilowatt-hours (kWh) per 1000 hours.
The new labels use a scale from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient). This is based on new energy classes that include more factors.
The new labels also show more information about the lamp or light: how bright it is (lumen), the color of the light (color temperature), the type of socket, and how much energy it uses.
There is also a QR code on the new labels. You can scan it with your phone to go to the European Product Database for Energy Labelling (EPREL). There you can find more details about all models sold in Europe. Manufacturers must register their products there.
The new labels are used for all electric devices that had the old labels before, like lamps, lights, TVs, washing machines, and fridges.
