The three glass lampshades are made from blown amber glass, which helps contribute a warm golden glow. Paired with an untreated brass frame, the lamp achieves a sophisticated and inviting look that adds a touch of elegance to any room.

The famous three-shade system was invented by Poul Henningsen in 1926. He didn’t like the light from the new incandescent bulb that had taken Danish homes by storm. He missed the warm glow of the old petroleum lamp. So, he decided to develop a new lampshade that reduced the uncomfortable blinding effect and improved the light of the electric bulb. Not only did he invent a new lampshade, but a system that changed the history of lamps forever.

It’s been more than 90 years since Louis Poulsen discovered Poul Henningsen’s lamps, and since then, Louis Poulsen have manufactured several lamps with the PH initials. To this day, Poul Henningsen is one of the most popular lamp designers out there. His work that touches on the relationship between light structures, blinding, and colour rendition, not to mention his fascination with the human need for both light and darkness form a light philosophy that continues to permeate the Louis Poulsen range.
