Vitra Table Lamps
The Japanese-American designer Isamu Noguchi started designing light sculptures with a distinctly dense design in 1951. Paired with the light paper material, the decorative sculptures had the light and almost weightless expression that we know from rice paper lamps. That became the start of the Akari lamps, which were named ‘Akari’ after the Japanese word for ‘light’.
These days, Vitra is responsible for producing the Akari lamps. In the table lamp category, the popular Akari 1A and Akari 9A are particularly noteworthy. Both lamps bring together the traditional and the modern by combining the rice paper lamp with slender legs and a handle. Fit for use anywhere in need of a warm and relaxed light.
