VL38, VL45 & VL Ring Crown

To celebrate the opening of Radiohuset, now known as the Royal Danish Academy of Music, in the late 1940s, the two Danish super designers Vilhelm Lauritzen and Louis Poulsen joined forces to create the iconic VL38, VL45, and VL Ring Crown lamps to light up the building’s interior. Louis Poulsen has relaunched the collection, and its timeless charm has only grown. The classic mix of brass and blown opal glass merges with the soft curves to exude Nordic stylishness and elegance. Vilhelm Lauritzen

When it comes to the Golden Age of Danish functionalism and modernism, few designers are as celebrated as Vilhelm Lauritzen, whose ground-breaking designs are synonymous with the modernist period to this day. Some of his most iconic designs are Radiohuset, Shellhuset, and the earliest version of Copenhagen Airport. Lauritzen combined materials and light with an incredible harmony between artificial and natural light, which he let in through tall windows. His methods allowed the light to highlight the room, its inventory, and its users rather than just the walls. His contribution to Danish design history was rewarded with Knight 1st Class status under the Order of the Dannebrog.
