More about Philips Hue

Philips Hue is the newest and most cutting-edge development in the world of lighting. There are almost no limits to where these bulbs and lamps can be used and the sort of atmosphere they can create. Just like gaming, gardening or collecting, Philips Hue can become your new hobby. You can connect up to 50 Hue bulbs to a single starter kit, you can choose between 16 million different colours and you can synchronise Hue with you TV or music system so the lighting matches the sound. Hue products are incredibly quick and easy to install, use and expand. You can program your lamps to turn off when you leave and turn on again when you’re a certain distance from your home. You can dim them, mix Hue white and colour bulbs and have them project several different colours at the same time – all by controlling them with a single smart device. You can play with different colour tones and create the perfect mood lighting, and best of all you can use Hue bulbs in classic and widely-found E27 sockets.

Philips Hue starter kit – What is it?

When you buy a Philips Hue White starter kit you’ll receive 2 full-function E27 bulbs, a dimmer switch and a bridge, which connects to your WiFi and allows you to control the entire set-up from a smart device. You can also get a starter kit without the dimmer switch if you’d prefer to use a smartphone or tablet for everything.

A Philips Hue colour starter kit, similar to the White kit, includes a third E27 bulb instead of a dimmer. The colour kit can produce 16 million different colours tones that you can mix and match however you like.

New to the Hue collection are bulbs for GU10 sockets, and you can buy a starter kit with 3 GU10 colour bulbs and a bridge. Both E27 and GU10 bulbs are also available in Ambiance, which produces a full range of white tones from warm white mood lighting to cool and crisp work light – all in one bulb.

When you want to find the perfect Philips Hue starter kit for you, it’s important to start by considering which bulbs best suit your needs. For example, a good starter kit for you could be the Philips Hue GU10 bulbs, which provide an effective and energy-efficient glow. The starter kit also comes with a Philips Hue Bridge, which allows you to control up to 50 Philips Hue bulbs or 12 different Philips Hue lamps. Creating the perfect light and atmosphere has never been easier.

Philips Hue products can be placed anywhere around the home. Place a Philips Hue Light Strip by the staircase or under your furniture for a unique light expression. You can also use a smaller bulb with a GU10 socket, which is perfect for a Philips Hue spot that can be dimmed as you see fit. Or how about a bulb with Bluetooth technology, which you can control quickly, easily, and efficiently. Find our wide range of Philips Hue Bluetooth bulbs here. You can also use a Philips Hue outdoor lamp and connect this to your Bridge to bathe your outdoor spaces in a good light.

You can also place a motion sensor from Philips Hue in the garage or a hallway, so your intelligent lights automatically turn on when they register movement. No more fumbling around in the dark! The battery-powered Hue Motion sensor can be installed using a magnetic bracket or a single screw, and you can install it anywhere you want without the mess of complicated cables. What’s more, you can use your Hue app to adjust your motion sensor and change your settings depending on the time of day.

What are Philips Hue LightStrips?

If you like to play with light, experimenting with possibilities and having fun, take a look at the Philips Hue LightStrip Plus 2-meter starter kit. These LightStrips are great for creating interesting effects on stairs, in cabinets or even behind the TV. You can change their length and colour, and since they’re mounted with adhesive they’re easy to move without leaving ugly screw holes in your walls.

Watts & Lumen & Kelvin – I’m confused…

The energy output of bulbs used to be measured in watts, but the brightness of LED bulbs is measured in lumen (lm). 140 lm is equivalent to 15 watts; a traditional 100-watt bulb puts out 1520 lm. Kelvin is a measure of colour temperature. A bulb with warm light is somewhere between 2700-3000 kelvin, neutral colour temperature is between 3500 and 4000 kelvin and a cold bulb ranges between 4000-5000 kelvin. The warmer the light you want, the lower the kelvin you should look for.

Philips Hue LED – make the right choice

All Philips Hue products are LED. You get the energy savings of LED technology as well as dimmability, something native to Hue that you’re not guaranteed to find in other LED bulbs and lamps.
