The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first well-thought-out designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range was characterised by its simple, robust and ergonomic design. The basic construction required no screws or welded joints.

The distinctive design of the arms, bodies, fittings and joints testifies to exceptional originality and a construction that was far ahead of its time. Le Corbusier was an early admirer of this modern design language and used Lampe-Gras lights in his projects.

A distinctive feature of the Raw Copper version is that the lampshade is initially supplied bare and untreated. The patina only begins to form after unpacking and develops through the natural oxidation of the copper. Air, humidity and temperature influence this process, which is why it is not possible to specify an exact timeframe for the development of the patina. The raw copper may begin to darken visibly after as little as 14 days.

The surface also changes naturally through touch. Over time, the characteristic raw copper look emerges, with individual colour nuances developing. If you wish to speed up the oxidation process, you can store the lampshade outdoors in the shade for a few days, ensuring it is protected.
