Design Icons & Design Classics

There are designer pieces that you recognize immediately, even without knowing the designer's name. They are in museums and living rooms, on covers and sideboards, and they still seem as self-evident after decades as if they had always existed. This is exactly what makes a design classic: not its age, but its attitude. A clear form, a high-quality material, and an idea that shows attitude.

In this curated selection, we gather design icons and design classics under one roof. Iconic lights and timeless lamps, renowned designers, and the brands that still produce their designs today, as well as selected home accessories that follow the same design consistency.

An icon doesn't have to be old. Some are established classics that have shaped spaces for generations. Others are just emerging and will be the design classics of tomorrow. What connects them is substance: design that remains because it can do more than just appeal.

A journey through iconic lights

Some lights are more than just light sources. They are designs that have shaped spaces, eras, and design history, from the no-nonsense work lamp to the sculptural pendant lamp. This journey tells the story of iconic light design in four chapters and shows how smart ideas became timeless design classics.

Bauhaus · 1920s and 1930s
At the Bauhaus, the modernity of light begins: ornamentation yields to clarity, decoration to function - and from this rigor comes its own beauty. The Kaiser Idell by Christian Dell epitomizes this thinking: a task lamp reduced to the essentials. Fritz Hansen produces it to this day.

Mid-Century · 1950s and 1960s
After the war, light becomes warmer and more human. Poul Henningsen makes glare control a science and completes two icons for Louis Poulsen in 1958: the PH 5 and the sculptural PH Artichoke. In 1957, Arne Jacobsen designs the AJ for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. And in Japan, Isamu Noguchi's Akari - light sculptures made from washi paper and bamboo - emerge from 1951 onwards.

Space Age · Late 1960s and 1970s
Now color and form dare to appear. Verner Panton breaks with restraint: the playful Flowerpot in 1968, the organically curved Panthella in 1971, where shade and base together reflect light. Designs of an optimistic living culture that make light itself a statement.

Modern · 1980s to Today
In 1987, Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina reinvent the articulated lamp - the Tolomeo for Artemide, a contemporary staple. Even today, designs emerge that will be taken for granted tomorrow. Because design history is not only remembered, it is rewritten.

Selected Lighting Icons & Design Classics

A small selection from a great history. The following lights are among the most sought-after and most appreciated design classics, and each tells in its own way why good design never goes out of style.

Design icons among home accessories

Good design does not stop at the lamp. The same consistency of form, material, and idea is found in the small things that complete a room: in the wall clock that becomes the quiet focal point, in the vase on the sideboard, in the object that is placed with care.

There are also classics among home accessories that are recognizable at first glance. They do not impose themselves, they set the accent that holds an interior together. And they complement iconic lamps to form a harmonious whole, in which each piece has its place.
