The AJ Eklipta was designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1959 for the town hall in Rødovre. Two different sizes were produced for this project: 350 mm and 450 mm in diameter. They were used indoors on staircases or outdoors as wall lamps. Later, a version with a diameter of 220 mm was designed for St. Catherine's College in England. When Arne Jacobsen himself used the luminaire on staircases, he always preferred the largest version. Today, the luminaire is used worldwide in various architectural contexts.
The AJ Eklipta wall lamp gives off a soft and diffused light. The glass is designed to provide an evenly lit surface. The handblown glass shade in three-layer opal glass has a clear edge that gives the AJ Eklipta wall lamp a halo around the fixture.
The AJ Eklipta, with a diameter of 220 mm, now comes with a special frosted glass insert, so that halogen bulbs still provide a beautiful and even light. These inserts can be ordered as retrofits for older lamps
