The origins of Lampe Gras date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range became renowned for its simple, robust and ergonomic design. Le Corbusier was an early admirer of the modern design and incorporated Lampe Gras into his projects.

The raw copper lampshade is initially supplied bare and untreated. It is only after unpacking that natural oxidation begins through contact with the air. Over time, the copper develops its own unique patina and may visibly darken after as little as 14 days. Humidity, temperature and environmental factors influence the process, ensuring that each lampshade develops its own characteristic raw copper look.
