The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first well-thought-out designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range impressed with its simple, robust yet ergonomic design. The basic construction required no screws or welded joints.

The design of the arms, bodies, fittings and joints demonstrates exceptional originality and a design language that was far ahead of its time. Le Corbusier was fascinated by the modern design of the Lampe Gras light from an early stage and used the lights in his projects.

Today, Lampe Gras lights are highly sought-after design classics and collector’s items worldwide, particularly in France, the USA and Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s visionary design has proved to be timeless.

A distinctive feature of the Raw Copper version: the lampshade is supplied bare and untreated and does not yet have a patina. Natural oxidation only begins once the lamp has been unpacked. Air, humidity, temperature and other environmental factors influence the rate at which the patina develops. The raw copper may begin to darken visibly after around 14 days.

Over time, the lampshade develops its characteristic raw copper look and unique colour tones. The surface also changes naturally through touch. If you wish to speed up the oxidation process, you can store the lampshade outdoors in the shade for a few days, ensuring it is protected.
