The origins of the Lampe Gras collection date back to 1922, when Bernard-Albin Gras developed his first well-thought-out designs. Originally conceived for offices and industrial spaces, the range impressed with its simple, robust yet ergonomic design. The basic construction required no screws or welded joints.

The design of the individual details – such as the arms, body, fittings and joints – demonstrates exceptional originality and a design language that was far ahead of its time. Le Corbusier was fascinated by the modern design of the Lampe Gras from an early stage and used the lights in his projects.

Today, Lampe Gras lights are highly sought-after design classics and collectors’ items worldwide, particularly in France, the USA and Japan. Bernard-Albin Gras’s visionary design has proven to be timeless.

A distinctive feature of the Raw Copper version: the lampshade is supplied bare and untreated and has not yet developed a patina upon receipt. The patina only begins to form after unpacking, through the natural oxidation of the copper. Humidity, air, temperature and other environmental factors influence the speed of this process. The colour of the raw copper may visibly darken after as little as 14 days.

Over time, the surface develops its characteristic raw copper look and unique colour tones. As the patina depends on the specific environmental conditions, no two surfaces are exactly alike.
