“Give me a lamp that would look good in a New York loft,” Monika Mulder said to herself before sharpening her pencil and beginning to design the Mobil. She recalled the American city with its distinctive balconies and iron fire escapes, which adorn the tall red-brick buildings in the bohemian neighbourhoods, before crossing the East River via the Brooklyn Bridge, where she found the inspiration for Mobil.
A bohemian flair permeates the design, and just as Monika Mulder intended, the lamp possesses an elegance that a New York loft truly deserves – yet it looks just as stunning in simple, traditional Scandinavian homes. Nordic design traditions have not been forgotten, and as is always the case with Pholc’s lamps, Mobil embodies understated elegance and simple sophistication.
