Philippe Starck is a French designer who started his career in the 1980s. Since then, he has done things his own way. He started his first company in 1968, manufacturing inflatable furniture as an homage to the designer Quasar Khahn. He later went on to design interiors, and decorating the presidential suite at the Élysée Palace in 1982. Just two years later, he was responsible for decorating the successful designer hotel by the name of Castes.
Although Philippe Starck is a jack of all trades, right from citrus presses to toothbrushes, he is mostly famous for his lamps – especially Flos’ Miss K table lamp and the Gun table lamp
Philippe Starck has received a range of awards for his work. Including the Lifetime Achievement Award from Designer Magazine (2009), Good Design Award (2000 and 2008), Red Dot Award (2000, 2001, 2004, and 2006), and IF Design (1995 and 2002). It was the Miss K table lamp that was responsible for his Red Dot Award win in 2004.
