The Bestlite lamps were designed by Robert Dudley Best in 1930, in simple shapes that were highly unusual at the time. Robert Best was inspired by the German Bauhaus movement where shape and functionality took precedence over detailing. The lamp did not become popular until Winston Churchill selected it for his desk—after that, the lamp took off and became Britain’s first successful Bauhaus design.
These lamps used to be manufactured by the British company Best & Lloyd, but in 2003 the Danish company GUBI bought all rights to the Bestlite series.
Nowadays, the simple, functional and lovely Bestlite lamps are one of GUBI’s most popular products and you will see them proudly displayed in homes around the country—and the world.
Bestlite is available as a mounted, table, standing and pendulum lamp, so regardless of what kind of lamp you need you can rest assured that there is a Bestlite classic that’s right for you.
