Asteria Up from Umage

Mesh Ø72 from Luceplan
Giorgio Armani, Memphis Group, the Superleggera chair, the Arco lamp, Piaggio Vespa, Maserati Ghibli, Lamborghini Miura, Fiat 500. Italy and design can’t be separated, and the boot-shaped country has made a permanent mark on practically all aspects of design.
The world of lamps is no exception—and ever since the Venetian glassblowers started making the iconic neoclassical chandeliers in the 18th century, designers and design enthusiasts around the world have looked to the country of wine and pasta for flamboyant and energetic pendants that create a beautiful contrast to the cool, understated style of Scandinavian design.
Despite its long design history, it doesn’t look like Italy will be running out of creativity any time soon—and Mesh Ø72 from Luceplan in the capital of Milan is one of the brand’s latest modern takes on lamp design. The Mesh collection features a series of unique lamps unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. The Ø72 Ceiling Lamp comes with 96 small LED lights than can be dimmed and turned on/off individually, and it has a unique and light construction owing to its use of polycarbonate and steel.

Arigato Ceiling Lamp Double from Grupa
Design might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Croatia—but the beautiful country in the northern Balkans has been home to various talented designers over the years, including Bernado Bernardi, who designed the furniture for the Croatian communist party, Mladen and Marijan Orešić, who famously designed the Uni collection for the University of Zagreb, and now the design collective Grupa, which has created a series of unique and beautiful lamps.
Grupa was founded by Filip Despot, Ivana Pavic, and Tihana Taraba, and since the three young designers put their heads together, they have created five different lamps that adorn everything from President Zoran Milanovic’s office in Zagreb to Hotel Nubu in the bohemian East London.
We’ve decided to highlight the two-headed Arigato ceiling lamp that truly represents the Croatian brand’s vision and expression. The light and accommodating design is overshadowed only by the build quality, and adjusting the two heads, it becomes obvious that the model was assembled by hand. The lamp’s arms are light and silent when they move, and its flexibility means you always have the light right where you need it.
